LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 47 University of Hawai`i men's tennis team battled its way to an impressive 6-1 win over No. 70 Marquette Saturday morning at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 6-4 on the season.
After falling upset to No. 71 UNLV by a 6-1 count yesterday, the Rainbow Warriors bounced back in a big way and handed the Golden Eagles just their second loss of the season (11-2). UH started the day strong taking two of three doubles matches to take the first point. It marked the first time this year Marquette lost the doubles point.
In singles action the Rainbow Warriors almost pulled off the sweep, winning five of six courts. Sophomore
Leo Rosenberg continued his incredible play by defeating Niko Boulieris at the No. 3 court 6-1, 6-3 for UH's first single win of the day. The sophomore moved to a perfect 9-0 in dual matches and 13-3 overall.
Andreas Weber and
Jeremy Tweedt were also victorious in straight sets, while
Dmytro Kovalyov and
Philipp Eberhard outlasted their opponents for three-set victories decided by super tie-breakers.
UH will play their third straight match at Fertitta Tennis Complex when it faces Pacific on Sunday, March 7. First serve is at 10:00 a.m.
