Slaats Named Verizon Wireless WAC Pitcher Of The Week

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i junior pitcher Josh Slaats earned Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Monday.
 
Slaats threw a complete game shutout in a seven-inning win over The Citadel (March 5). He allowed just two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Slaats took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, pitching 5.2 no-hit innings before allowing his first hit of the game. Slaats had one strikeout in each inning pitched during the game, posting a new career high with seven strikeouts overall.
 
The junior picked up his first win of the season, and now has a 0.52 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched, allowing just one earned run with 15 strikeouts.
 
New Mexico State third baseman Wade Reynoso was named the WAC Hitter of the Week.
 
UH hosts Southern California this weekend for a four-game series from Friday, March 12, to Monday, March 15.
