NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Cal State Northridge Tuesday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 2-9 on the season.

 

Playing their ninth straight road match, the Rainbow Wahine battled hard but ultimately fell short. UH stretched the Matadors (5-2) to three sets in five singles matches, losing four of those contests. The Rainbow Wahine also were close in doubles but surrendered that point also. UH has now lost seven of its last eight matches.  

 

Top player Sophie Kobuch provided the UH highlight with a three-set victory in singles. The senior defeated Brooke Doane on the No. 1 court 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 Four other Rainbow Wahine—Barbara Pinterova, Katarina Poljakova, Natasha Zorec and Aglae Van den Bergh—also went the distance in singles, but were unable to pull off wins.

 

Up next for the Rainbow Wahine is a match at UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, March 10. First serve is at 2:30 p.m. PT (12:30 HT).
