Women’s Basketball Ends Season Against Fresno State At WAC Tourney

RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team ended the season with an 83-55 loss against No. 1 seed Fresno State in the first round of the WAC Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev.

The Rainbow Wahine, the No. 8 seed, lost in the first round against the Bulldogs for the second consecutive year. Fresno State has eliminated UH in the WAC Tournament three out of the last four years.

UH finishes the season with a 10-20 overall record. Fresno State advances to the semifinals and is now 26-5 overall.

Offensively, junior Keisha Kanekoa had 10 points and five assists, while Allie Patterson had nine points and three rebounds.

UH's lone senior Dita Liepkalne finished her playing career with 12 points, four rebounds and six assists. Breanna Arbuckle added 11 points and five rebounds.

In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine started strong, taking a 12-4 lead to start the game. But Fresno State rallied back behind hot shooting to take a 49-28 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs shot 62.1 percent (18-29) in the first half, including 8-of-13 from 3-point range, while UH shot 42.9 percent (12-28) and went 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Kanekoa led the way with seven points, while Patterson added six points in the half.

The semifinals of the WAC Tournament continue on Friday, March 12, while the championship game will be on Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. PT, live on ESPNU.
