HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (7-6) defeated the Southern California Trojans (6-8) 8-2 in front of a crowd of 3,873 at Les Murakami Stadium Friday.
Alex Capaul (3-1) came on in relief to get the win, allowing just one run in 5.1 innings. Andrew Triggs (1-1) took the loss for USC.
USC got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the second. The Trojans then got it to 2-0 with another run in the top of the fifth before UH was able to make their run.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hawai'i benefited from three USC errors while working two bases loaded walks to plate four runs and take the 4-2 edge.
The Rainbows then blew it open in the bottom of the eighth. Freitas got the scoring started with a RBI-single before Bennett hit a two-run double to the left-center gap. Macdonald capped the scoring with a RBI-single, pushing UH to close the 8-2 victory.
Hawai'i continues the series with the Trojans tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium. Less than 400 tickets for tomorrow's game are left, but fans will be able to purchase a limited amount of standing room-only tickets after the stadium's capacity is sold out.
