Hou Ties For Third At Thompson Invite; ‘Bows Finish In Sixth

KANE'OHE, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team concluded the 25th annual Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, Tuesday, at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course. The Rainbow Wahine carded a 926 three-round total (313-305-308), tying their low of the season, and earned sixth place which marks their best finish of the season.
 
Top-finisher for UH was senior Corie Hou who tied for third at six-over par. Hou improved throughout the tournament, opening with a first-round 79, shaving seven strokes off to card a second-round 72, and finally hitting a 71, the lowest third-round score of the individual field. Hou earned her season-low round (71), three-round score (222), and finish (T3rd), her best career finish behind her tie for second place at the Fresno State Invitational in the 2007-08 season.
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were junior Brittany Bomar (79-76-78=233) who tied for 22nd to earn her best finish of the season, freshman Ka'ili Britos (78-79-79=236/T33rd), sophomore Erika Lundberg (77-81-80=238/T42nd), and freshman Brigitte Baker (81-78-81=240/T51st). Participating as an individual was senior Erin Matsuoka (82-80-85=247/T69th).
 
Capturing the team title was Rollins with a 904 total (300-306-298). Rollins went into the final round tied for third with San Francisco, three strokes behind Nova Southeastern, but was able to take the lead by firing a 298. Nova Southeastern finished second, while San Francisco finished in third.
 
Winning individually was Louisa Lies of Fresno State (66-76-74=216). Lies blew away the rest of the field, carding the lowest round of the tournament (66) and finishing five strokes ahead of the second place individual, Sandra Changkija of Nova Southeastern.
 
UH hits the road for its final tournament of the season before the WAC Championships, the Anteater Invitational on March 29 through 30. The tournament will be hosted by UC Irvine in Dove Canyon, Calif.
