HONOLULU - The No. 57 University of Hawai`i men's tennis team made its return home with a tough 5-2 loss to No. 12 Louisville Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 7-6 on the year.
Playing just its fourth home match of the year and first in more than two months, the Rainbow Warriors battled hard, but ultimately fell short against the No. 12 Cardinals (14-3). All six of UH losses this year have come against ranked squads.
Louisville started the day by taking the doubles with wins on two of three courts. UH, however, did get a solid performance at No. 3 doubles as the duo of
Jeremy Tweedt and
Leo Rosenberg who picked up an 8-3 win over Viktor Maksimcuk and Andrew Carter.
The Cardinals clinched the win by taking four out of six courts in singles. UH got a pair of victories at the No. 2 and 3 courts over ranked singles players. Rosenberg continued his hot play in singles by defeating No. 122 Maksimcuk in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. The sophomore improved to a perfect 12-0 on the season. Senior
Andreas Weber improved to 8-4 in dual matches this year after beating Simon Childs in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Louisville, however, took the No. 4, 5, and 6 courts, then secured the win when No. 31 Austen Childs rallied in the second set to defeat No. 105
Dennis Lajola, 6-0, 7-6 on the No. 1 court.
The Rainbow Warriors will return to action in April with three straight conference home matches—April 2 against No. 22 Fresno State; April 3 against Utah State; and April 4 against No. 58 Idaho at the UH Tennis Complex
