LOS ANGELES – University of Hawai'i discus thrower
TeRina Keenan led the Rainbow Wahine track and field team at the USC Trojan Invitational Saturday at Locker Stadium on the USC campus.
Keenan captured the invitational title with a huge personal best throw of 169-7 (51.69m) to beat out throwers from Texas and USC. Keenan's throw was nearly eight feet better than Texas' Okwukwe Okolie.
In the triple jump, newcomer
Madara Apine shattered the school's triple jump record tied with Sacramento State's Moira Robinson for the top mark of 41-5.75 (12.64m). However, Robinson won the tiebreaker for top individual honors. The old school record was 39-8.5 (12.11m) set by
Emily Sheppard last season.
A pair of Rainbow Wahine were among the top performers in the high jump competition, as
Samantha Balentine and
Sarah Saddleton each cleared 5-7 (1.70m) to place third and fourth, respectively.
Other UH athletes who faired well in their respective events were
Jessica Forrester in the 3000-meter run (10:22.84/4
th);
Thalia Amanakis in the 100-meter hurdles (14.28/7
th); and Cecelia Durocher (11-3.75/3.45m/1
st) and
Mallory Ramsey (11-3.75/3.45m/2
nd) in the pole vault section “B.”
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their road trip by competing in the Stanford Invitational, March 26-27.
