Rainbows Come From Behind To Beat Air Force 9-5

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (10-9) defeated the Air Force Falcons (5-15) 9-5 in front of a crowd of 2,757 at Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Alex Capaul (4-1) got the win for UH while Lenny Linsky picked up his fourth save of the season. Sean Carley (1-2) took the loss for AFA.
 
Matt Roquemore led the way for UH, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. David Freitas added a 2-for-4 game with two RBI and a run while Collin Bennett was 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks. Greg Garcia was 2-for-5 with a run with Kolten Wong going 1-for-4 with two RBI, two runs and a triple.
 
Air Force jumped out early, scoring a run in the first and three more in the third to go ahead 4-0.
 
But the 'Bows came back with a big bottom of the third inning. Wong got the scoring started with a two-run triple. Wong would score on a single by Freitas, who later scored on a bases-loaded walk. Roquemore then capped the scoring for the inning with a two-run single, pushing UH ahead 6-4.
 
After the Falcons cut it back to 6-5 with a run in the top of the seventh, UH put up a three-run inning, highlighted by a solo home run by Bennett, making it 9-5.
 
Air Force threatened in the top of the ninth, posting three hits off Linsky in the inning. But a timely double play and a ground out closed out the 9-5 Hawai'i victory.
 
The two teams conclude the series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
