Majam Earns Second Verizon Wireless Hitter Of The Week Honor

DENVER – Hawai`i's Kelly Majam was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for March 15-21. This is the second honor of the season for the freshman centerfielder.

Majam, Hawai'i's lead-off hitter from Pine Valley, Calif., racked up eight hits with five home runs and one double last week en route to MVP honors at the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament. She hit at least one homer in each of the last four games, including two in Hawai'i's second game against Lipscomb. She hit safely in all six games of the tourney and started two straight games with a lead-off home runs. Against Lipscomb on March 18, Majam went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and three RBI. Majam is currently on an eight-game hitting streak, her second longest of the season and now has 15 home runs this season, which ties her for fourth all-time in the UH single-season record book.

Overall, Majam is tied with a team-high .394 batting average with Melissa Gonzalez. But Majam leads the 'Bows in hits (41), runs (34), triples (2), home runs (15), and RBI. She also leads UH in slugging percentage (.933) and on-base percentage (.484).

The Rainbow Wahine open their Western Athletic Conference season against San Jose State (22-8) with a single game on Friday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday, March 27 starting at 4:00 p.m. to complete the three-game series.
