Josh Slaats was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday, for the week of March 15-22. It is the second such honor for Slaats, who also won the same honor on March. 7.
The San Ramon, Calif., native got the win over Air Force on March 20, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts in just 5.1 innings of work, combining for a shutout, allowing only three hits and a walk. Slaats is now 2-0 with a 0.40 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched, striking out 26 with just six walks and one earned run for the season.
New Mexico State's Ben Harty was named the WAC Hitter of the Week.
The 'Bows will close out their series vs. Air Force tonight at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium, before they head out on their first road trip this week, playing five games in six days in southern California. UH will start with a mid-week game at Long Beach State on Wednesday, March 24, before playing a three-game series at national power Cal State Fullerton from Friday, March 26, through Sunday, March 28. Hawai'i will then close the trip with a single game at San Diego on Monday, March 29.
