Match Notes

HONOLULU – The fifth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team (9-6, 1-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) head to San Diego and Arizona this week for its last regular season road trip.

UH opens play against No. 14 San Diego State on Wednesday, Mar. 24 at 3 p.m. PT for its fourth conference match and is scheduled to face UC San Diego the following day at 6 p.m. PT.

On Saturday, Mar. 27 the Rainbow Wahine will enter the Arizona State Invitational, first against host No. 6 Arizona State in MPSF play at 11:30 a.m. PT and later face Cal Baptist at 4:30 p.m. PT. The Rainbow Wahine already twice met with the Sun Devils, defeating them 11-7 on Feb. 6 in the Stanford Tournament and 9-7 on Feb. 28 at the Irvine Tournament.

UH will conclude the invitational with a pair of back-to-back matches against Concordia at 10:30 a.m. PT and Santa Clara at 1:30 p.m. PT on Sunday, Mar. 28.

UH Remains At No. 5 In CWPA Poll
For the third straight week, UH holds at No. 5 in the Mar. 13 College Water Polo Association Poll. Despite an upset victory over No. 4 UCLA and a three-game win streak under their belts, the Rainbow Wahine have seen little movement in the poll. The upset did however cause the Bruins to move down to No. 4 last week behind third-ranked California. Currently USC holds the No. 1 spot while Stanford remains at No. 2.

Three Rainbow Wahine Lead MPSF In Goal-Scoring
As of the Mar. 15 MPSF statistics, sophomore Monika Eggens, senior Leonie Van Der Molen and junior Carmen Eggens are included among the conference's top 10 leaders in goal-scoring. Monika Eggens and Van Der Molen are currently tied for third, tallying 27 goals each with a 1.80 goals per match average. Carmen Eggens is ranked eighth with 25 goals and a 1.67 goals per match average. California's Emily Csikos leads the MPSF with 52 goals, averaging 2.26 goals per match.

Exhibition Matches Against Canada Cancelled
The series of exhbition matches against Canada scheduled for Apr. 12, 15 and 16 at the Duke Kahanamoku Complex have been cancelled. Despite the cancellation, UH will still be hosting No. 2 Stanford and San Jose State for its last two conference matches of the season.

Rainbow Wahine To Conclude Season Play At Home
The Rainbow Wahine will next be returning home to the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex for their last two matches of the season before heading to the MPSF tournament in California.
