'Bows Complete Sweep Of Air Force With 13-1 Win In Finale

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (11-9) completed the sweep of the Air Force Falcons (5-16) 13-1 in front of a crowd of 2,375 at Les Murakami Stadium Monday. Matt Sisto (2-3) got the win, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight. Michael Ruvolo (0-2) took the loss for AFA.
 
David Freitas went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a homer, with Kolten Wong going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Jeffrey Van Doornum was 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run with Collin Bennett going 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and one RBI. Greg Garcia added a 2-for-4 game with two runs and a double while Piikea Kitamura went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
 
Sisto allowed a run in the first inning, giving up two hits within the first three batters. But he then settled down, retiring the next 11 batters he faced.
 
The Rainbow offense got it going in the bottom of the first, leading off the game with three-straight hits, capped by a two-run double by Wong. Bennett later drove Wong in on a triple before coming home on a RBI-single by Van Doornum, making it 4-1.
 
UH continued to stay hot at the plate in the second, batting around with a huge, two-out, rally. After the first two 'Bows were retired, Garcia and Wong both singled before coming in on a three-run homer by Freitas. Two more Rainbows would later score in the inning to get the Hawai'i lead out to 9-1.
 
Kitamura added a two-run single in the fourth inning with Van Doornum scoring on a double play ball to get it to 12-1. UH got the final run of the game as Breland Almadova hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Jesse More in the seventh, to make the final 13-1.
 
The Rainbows will now head on their first road trip of the season, playing five games in six days in southern California. UH will start with a mid-week game at Long Beach State on Wednesday, March 24, before playing a three-game series at national power Cal State Fullerton from Friday, March 26, through Sunday, March 28. Hawai'i will then close the trip with a single game at San Diego on Monday, March 29.
