SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The fifth-ranked University of Hawai`i women's water polo team defeated UC San Diego Thursday night, 10-8 in overtime. The Rainbow Wahine improve to 11-6, 2-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Sophomore Monika Eggens came out strong for the Rainbow Wahine, giving the team a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. UH muscled in one goal and kept UCSD silent in the second, holding onto a 4-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, USCD took control of the match with a 2-0 run over UH. The Rainbow Wahine picked it up in fourth quarter, scoring four goals but the Tritons fought until the end, sinking in five goals to tie the match 8-8. 

The Rainbow Wahine dominated through overtime. Junior Carmen Eggens scored one for UH in the first overtime period and freshman Amarens Genee added another in the final. The Rainbow Wahine's defense kept the Tritons scoreless, taking the match 10-8. 

Sophomore Monika Eggens lead the Rainbow Wahine with a hat trick, while sister junior Carmen Eggens and freshman Amarens Genee added two each.

Next the Rainbow Wahine head to Arizona to play in the Arizona State Invitational this weekend. UH will first face the host team for MPSF play on Saturday, Mar. 27 at 11:30 a.m. PT.
