Warrior Golf Concludes Barona Collegiate Cup In 16th

Final Results

LAKESIDE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team placed 16th at the Barona Collegiate Cup, Friday, at the Barona Creek Golf Club. After posting a first-round 378 to begin Round 2 in 12th, the men could not reproduce their low score and finished with an 1180 total (378-405-397).

For the third time this season, top-finisher for UH was sophomore #T.J. Kua# (68-80-72=220). Kua opened the tournament with an outstanding 68, his second-best collegiate career round score, to put him in a tie for second. After struggling in the second round with an 80, Kua fought his way back up the standings with a final-round even-par (72) to move up nine places and finish tied for 22nd place.

Eight shots back of Kua was junior Kamden Brakel who finished in a tie for 59th (73-75-80=228). Brakel played two solid rounds of golf in which he sunk nine birdies, and went into the final day tied with Kua in 31st place. However, his third-round 80 was not enough to keep him in the top-50.

Also competing for the Warriors were sophomore Jared Sawada (78-87-73=238/T85th), freshman Cory Oride (77-79-84=240/93rd), and freshman Henry Park (82-84-88=254/103rd).

Winning the team title was host San Diego State at eight-under par (357-355-360=1072), 22-strokes ahead of second place UC Irvine. Individually, leader through all three rounds John Chin took first (65-71-68=204). Chin, of UCI, posted every round under-par with a total of 16 birdies and only four bogeys throughout the tournament.

Up next for the Warriors is the U.S. Intercollegiate, April 11 through 13, in Palo Alto, Calif.
