Box Score

FULLERON, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (12-10) fell to the Cal State Fullerton Titans (11-10) 3-0 at Goodwin Field Friday. Josh Slaats (2-1) took the loss, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings while CSUF's Noe Ramirez (4-1) pitched a gem, striking out 14 in a complete-game shutout.

David Freitas led UH, going 2-for-4. Sean Montplaisir added a double while Kevin Macdonald and Kolten Wong had the two other Hawai'i hits during the game. Alex Capaul pitched great in relief, allowing no runs on just two hits in 2.2 innings.

Slaats kept CSUF at bay early on, holding the Titans to just two hits in the first three innings. But a lead-off triple in the fourth gave Fullerton the first run of the game.

The Titans then put up two more runs in the sixth, getting it to 3-0. UH started the seventh inning with a couple hits and got its runners into scoring position with a sacrifice. But Ramirez settled the Rainbows, striking out the final two batters of the inning to keep UH off the scoreboard.

Hawai'i had one last run in the ninth inning, putting two runners on base with just one out. But Ramirez was able to complete his gem, striking out the final batter to preserve the CSUF victory.

The series continues tomorrow with a 6:00 p.m. (3 p.m. HST) before closing out the series with a 1:00 p.m. (10 a.m. HST) game on Sunday. UH will then close the road trip with a game at San Diego on Monday, March 29.
