STANFORD, Calif. – Fresh off a runner-up finish at the NCAA Indoor Championship, University of Hawai'i high jumper Amber Kaufman won the event at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

On Friday Kaufman cleared 6-3.25 (1.91m) to easily take top individual honors. The San Jose, Calif., native just brushed off the bar at 6-4.25 (1.94m), which would have broken her own school record. Teammates Samantha Balentine and Sarah Saddleton also competed in the event. Balentine placed 10th at 5-5.25 (1.66m) while Saddleton finished 11th at 5-3.25 (1.61m).

Also on Friday, senior Thalia Amanakis qualified for the finals in the highly competitive 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.02 seconds. The Sydney, Australia native placed seventh but hobbled from the finish line and was scratched from the final and the 400-meter hurdles prelims.

In the 400-meter, Ashlee Jimenez set a new personal best with a mark of 59.38 seconds. Sophomore Lauren Cutler placed second to former Rainbow Wahine and current Concordia athlete Kai Schmidt in the javelin. Cutler threw 134-9 (41.08m).

In the invitational section of the hammer throw on Saturday, Emma MacCorquodale took eighth place after a heave of 171-3 (52.19m). Reigning Western Athletic Conference athlete of the week TeRina Keenan finished third in the discus with a throw of 165-4 (50.39m). Newcomer Madara Apine's triple jump mark of 40-2 (12.24m) placed fourth overall.

Several Rainbow Wahine were in action at San Francisco State's Distance Carnival on Friday highlighted by Mariana Monasi who competed in both the 800-meters (2:20.45) and 1500-meters (4:50.46).
