Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Home Schedule This Weekend

HONOLULU – The No. 57 UH Men's tennis team will play their final home matches of the season when they host a trio of Western Athletic Conference teams this weekend. The Rainbow Warriors will face No. 28 Fresno State (April 2) Utah State (April 3) and No. 72 Idaho (April 4) on consecutive days at the UH Tennis Complex.  Fans attending the Saturday match versus Utah State will receive free slices of Papa John's pizza, while supplies last.

UH (7-6) defeated Nevada earlier this year to move to 1-0 in the WAC and will be playing its first league match since January. The Rainbow Warriors, the two-time defending WAC Tournament champions, are seeking its first regular-season WAC title since the inception of a regular-season schedule in 2009.

Hawai'i will face some formidable competition this weekend with three tough competitors, including two ranked squads. No. 28 Fresno State (13-6) is the highest ranked team in the conference and is ahead of the pack with a 3-0 mark in WAC play. The Bulldogs boast  the 19th-ranked duo of Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers. Idaho (14-5) has won eight of its last nine matches and are ranked No. 72 nationally. The Vandals, however, are just 1-3 in the WAC, including a loss at Boise State in its last match. Meanwhile, Utah State comes to Hawai'i with a 10-7 mark and are winless (0-3) in WAC action.

UH has faced a challenging schedule this year with eight ranked opponents—six of those coming in the last seven matches. All six of UH's losses this year have come at the hands of nationally ranked squads, including a 5-2 setback to No. 12 Louisville in its last match on March 17. Despite the loss to the No. 12 Cardinals the Rainbow Warriors got strong performances from sophomore Leo Rosenberg and senior Andreas Weber, who both defeated ranked singles opponents. Rosenberg won in straight sets over No. 122 Viktor Maksimcuk and remains undefeated (12-0) in singles play during the spring season. Weber, meanwhile, improved to 8-4 in dual matches this year after beating No. 66 Simon Childs. This weekend will be the final home appearance for Weber, a three-time all-WAC selection and the 2007 WAC Freshman of the Year.

Following this weekend's action the Rainbow Warriors will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico for a two-match road trip to finish out their regular season. UH will play New Mexico State on Thursday, April 15 and Boise State on Saturday, April 17.
