DENVER – University of Hawai`i's
Dennis Lajola has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 29-April 4. This is Lajola's second honor this season and fourth of his career.
Lajola, a junior from `Aiea, O`ahu, went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to help Hawai`i (8-6, 2-0 WAC) in conference matches against Fresno State and Idaho. Lajola played a key part in UH's win over No. 28 Fresno State defeating Mirko Zapletal in three sets at No. 1 singles, and teaming with
Daniel Llarenas to beat Zapletal and Taylor Leiby at No. 2 doubles. UH improved to 2-0 in the WAC and handed the Bulldogs, the highest ranked team in the WAC, their first league loss of the season.
Lajola also took down Adrian Simon, 6-1, 6-3 of No. 72 Idaho, as the Rainbow Warriors held a commanding lead before play was halted due to rain. Lajola has won all three of his WAC singles matches this season.
Next up for Lajola and the Rainbow Warriors is a two-match road trip at New Mexico State on Thursday, April 15 and versus No. 49 Boise State on Saturday, April 17 in Las Cruces, N.M.
