Rainbow Wahine Wrap Up WAC Schedule at Home

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team will play its final three home matches of the season, beginning this weekend with a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches versus New Mexico State and San Jose State at the UH Tennis Complex. Fans attending the Friday's  match versus New Mexico State will receive free slices of Papa John's pizza, while supplies last.

The Rainbow Wahine will take on New Mexico State on Friday, April 16 and San Jose State on Saturday, April 17. Both matches begin at 3:00 p.m. It is the final two WAC regular-season matches for a UH (8-13) squad that is currently 3-3 in conference play and jockeying for seeding for the WAC Tournament which begins on April 30 in Fresno, Calif.

New Mexico State (10-12, 3-3) has won two out of their last three matches against WAC teams Fresno State and Utah State and will be coming out strong against the Rainbow Wahine with the teams currently tied for fourth place. Meanwhile, San Jose State (9-12, 0-5) is looking to snap its six-match losing streak this weekend and are searching for its first WAC win on the year.

The Rainbow Wahine will look to senior Sophie Kobuch to continue her strong singles play and improve on her overall record of 12-9. She has won six of her last eight matches and is 4-2 in WAC singles action. In doubles, the Rainbow Wahine will rely on Alyssa Nafarrete and Barbara Pinterova (13-7) to continue their dominate play. The pair has has been on a tear, winning nine of their last 11 doubles matches.

UH will conclude their 2010 regular season next weekend with a match against Hawai`i Pacific on Saturday, April 24 at the UH Tennis Complex. The first serve will be at 10:00 a.m.
