HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over New Mexico State in a Western Athletic Conference match Friday at the UH Tennis Complex. UH improved to 9-13 overall and 4-3 in the WAC.
UH won the doubles point then took four of six singles courts to claim the win over the Aggies (10-13, 3-4 WAC). UH took the doubles point by taking two of three courts, including the clinching win by
Barbara Pinterova and
Alyssa Nafarrete on the No. 2 court by an 8-5 count over Sophia Marks and Manon Sylvain. The duo has now won 10 of its last 12 doubles matches.
In singles play UH got wins at the top four courts from Pinterova,
Katarina Poljakova,
Sophie Kobuch and
Aglae Van den Bergh. Kobuch had the most dominating win, taking down Sylvain 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 2 court. Pinterova gritted out a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win over Marks on the No. 1 court, while Van den Berg clinched the all-important fourth point by pulling off a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 4 court over Aleksa Costa. Poljakova rallied for a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 win on the No. 3 court over Isabela Kulaif to conclude the day's action.
The Rainbow Wahine will finish their WAC regular season schedule when they face San Jose State on Saturday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.
