HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team will host Pepperdine in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament, Saturday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Warriors (18-9, 14-8) earned the tournament's fourth seed while the Waves (16-9, 14-8) are seeded fifth.

Tickets are on sale now at the SSC Box Office, through the phone sales line at 944-2697, and online. Ticket prices are $12 (lower level), $10 (upper-adults), $5 (upper-student, 4-HS), and $5 (upper-UH or Pepperdine students).

Season ticket holders who reserved their seats may begin picking up their tickets beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the SSC Box Office.

UH will host an MPSF first round match for the first time since 2006 and snapped a two-year drought with its first appearance in the tourney since 2007. The Warriors and Waves split their two-match series last month in Malibu, Calif., with each team winning in straight sets. The teams finished in a tie for fourth place in the final league standings, however, UH won the tiebreaker due to point differential.

Under first-year head coach Charlie Wade, the Warriors have had a remarkable turnaround in 2010. Picked to finish ninth in the preseason coaches poll, UH improved nine wins from a year ago and posted its best league record since a 19-3 mark in 2006. The Warriors are led by freshman of the year candidate Jonas Umlauft, who is the league leader in kills (5.20 kills per set) and outside hitter Joshua Walker (4.40), who ranks eighth. Against the Waves, Umlauft averaged 6.83 kills per set, which earned him MPSF co-Player of the Week honors.

Pepperdine ended the regular season by losing four of its last seven matches, which began with a straight-set loss to the Warriors on March 27. A five-set loss at UC San Diego in the regular season finale last Saturday, cost the Waves a chance to host a first round match and a tie for second in the league standings. Outside hitter Cory Riecks (3.96) and freshman opposite Maurice Torres (3.92) are the team's top two attackers.
