Rainbows Drop Series-Finale At Sacramento State 9-4

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Ranbow baseball team (18-18, 2-6 WAC) fell to the Sacramento State Hornets (14-18-1, 3-1) 9-4 in the series finale at Hornet Field Sunday. Zach Gallagher (3-3) took the loss for UH while Jose Ramirez (1-2) got the win for Sacramento State.

Kolten Wong went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one run and one RBI while Greg Garcia was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Sean Montplaisir added a 2-for-2 game with a home run and two runs scored.

Hawai'i took the lead early in the game as Garcia tripled in Jeffrey Van Doornum in the top of the second, making it 1-0. But the Hornets came up big in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs, four of which were unearned, to take the 5-1 edge.

Sacramento State then added two more runs in the bottom of the third, making it 7-1. UH would keep fighting as Garcia and Wong drove in runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. But the Hornets always had the answer, also scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to keep the six-run edge.

Montplaisir added a solo home run for the Rainbows in the top of the seventh, but that was all they could do, falling by the final score of 9-4.

The 'Bows continue their long road trip, flying over to Louisiana to play at Centenary on Tuesday, Apr. 20, before playing a four-game series at Louisiana Tech from Apr. 22-25.
