HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team finished fourth in the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Coed Dinghy Championships, held April 17-18 at Ke'ehi Lagoon. By finishing in the top four, the Rainbows qualified for next month's ICSA National Semifinals.
It was a tight finish for the Rainbows who needed a clutch performance from
William Petersen and
Tahnee Allman at day's end. Hawai'i and UC Santa Barbara were tied for fourth place going into the last race in the B division, with Santa Clara not far behind. Petersen and Allman finished in fifth in the race, just ahead of Santa Clara (7) and UC Santa Barbara (9).
Stanford won the regatta with a total of 102 points, while USC (117) and UC Irvine (142) also wrapped up spots to the national semifinals. UH finished with 171 points, just squeezing past UC Santa Barbara (175) and Santa Clara (175), who tied for fifth. By doing so, the Rainbows qualified for the nationals for the eighth time in the last nine years.
The Rainbows will now travel to Charleston, S.C. for the ICSA National Semifinals, May 1-2. UH will look to secure a spot in the national's third event when the Rainbow Wahine compete in the PCCSC Women's Championship April 24-25 in Stanford, Calif.
