No. 23/25 Softball Heads To Nevada for Crucial WAC Series

Series Notes

RENO, Nev. -- The 23/25th-ranked University of Hawai'i softball team (36-11, 14-0 WAC) hits the road this week to battle Nevada (16-20, 3-8 WAC). The 'Bows and the Wolf Pack will play a single game on Friday, April 23 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park. The 'Bows are the lone unbeaten team in the Western Athletic Conference and remain atop the standings.

Hawai'i is off to its best start in conference history and its 14-game win streak is the most in school history, breaking the former record of 13 set by the 1994 team. In last week's series finale against Louisiana Tech, Melissa Gonzalez hit two home runs and drove in a career-high five RBI. It was the fourth time this season that Gonzalez has hit two homers in a game. Stephanie Ricketts went 2-0 last week with a 1.11 ERA in three appearances. She tied her career game-high with 11 strike outs in the series opener. The Rainbow Wahine have set a school and WAC record with 113 home runs thus far this year. Kelly Majam leads the 'Bows at the plate with a .401 average (59-for-147), 57 runs scored, and 46 RBI. She broke the WAC single-season home run record last week with her 24th round-tripper. Majam is also tied with Tia Morenz for most runs scored in a season (57), while Jessica Iwata is one double shy of tying Stacey Porter's single-season record of 18 set in 2003.
