UH Women’s Tennis Defeats HPU In Final Home Match

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team rounded out their regular season with a dominating 6-1 win over Hawai'i Pacific University on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine improved their overall record to 11-13 by winning their four straight match.

UH (11-13) was too much for HPU (18-4), sweeping them on every court except one. Lone senior Sophie Kobuch closed out her last home match at UH with a three-set win over nationally ranked Division II singles player, No. 3 Zora Vlckova to clinch a singles point. Her fellow teammates showed their love for Kobuch with signs, lei's and flowers following the match. In doubles action, the Rainbow Wahine swept the competition with Kobuch and Katarina Poljakova and Alyssa Nafarrete and Barabara Pinterova continuing their strong play to close out the season. Both duos have captured five straight wins.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Fresno, Calif. The No. 4 seed Rainbow Wahine will take on No. 5 seed Idaho in an opening round match on Friday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. PT (8:00 a.m. HT).
