RUSTON, La. – The University of Hawai'i Ranbow baseball team (21-20, 4-8 WAC) fell to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (21-18, 6-6) 14-6 at J.C. Love Field Sunday.
Nate Klein (1-1) took the loss for UH while Dan Breazeale (1-0) got the win for the Bulldogs.
Kevin Macdonald went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs. Jeffrey Van Doornum also homered in a 2-for-5 game while
Collin Bennett came up with a home run with two RBI in a 1-for-3 game.
Matt Roquemore added a 2-for-5 game with one RBI.
The Bulldogs got on the board first as Alex Williams hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. The 'Bows responded in the top of the second as a solo home run by Bennett and a two-run shot by Macdonald got UH the 3-2 edge.
Louisiana Tech took back the lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Van Doornum then homered to tie it at 4-4 in the top of the third, with Mark Threlkeld hitting a solo homer for LTU in the bottom of the inning, giving them back the lead at 5-4.
Roquemore and Bennett drove in runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to give Hawai'i back the lead at 6-5. But the Bulldogs then came up with their big inning, scoring eight runs, highlighted by a grand slam by Threlkeld, in the bottom of the sixth to make it 13-6.
LTU added another run in the bottom of the eighth, making the final score 14-6.
The Rainbows will now return home after the long road trip to host the Nevada Wolf Pack from Apr. 30-May 2 at Les Murakami Stadium.
