Ricketts Earns Third Verizon Wireless WAC Pitcher Of The Week Honors

DENVER – University of Hawai`i's Stephanie Ricketts has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, for April 19-25. This is the third honor of the season and fifth of Ricketts' career.

Ricketts, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif., fired her first career perfect game at Nevada this past week. In the five-inning gem, she got six fly outs, seven ground outs and two strikeouts. She threw just 53 pitches in the game and faced the minimum 15 batters. It was her fourth shutout of the year and her third career no-hitter.

With the win, Ricketts raised her record to 20-6 on the year and 11-0 in WAC action. She also became just the third pitcher in Hawai'i history to win at least 20 games in two seasons. Last season, Ricketts finished the year with a 22-11 record overall and was 13-4 in conference.

Utah State's Tina Ferguson, a freshman second baseman, was named the WAC Hitter of the Week.

The 'Bows finish the regular season with a crucial, three-game conference series against perennial power, Fresno State (33-14, 12-3 WAC). Hawai'i will be battling for its third regular season WAC title. It will be the Senior Night on Saturday for five Rainbow Wahine seniors: Katie Grimes, Tasha Pagdilao, Kanani Pu'u-Warren, Amanda Tauali'i, and Traci Yoshikawa.
