Baseball 'Bows Lose Series Opener To Nevada 8-4

Box Score

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (21-21, 4-9 WAC) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (23-15-1, 4-4-1) 8-4 in front of a crowd of 3,209 at Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Josh Slaats (4-3) took the loss for UH while Chris Garcia (5-2) got the win for the Wolf Pack.

Kevin Macdonald went 2-for-4 with two RBI and run to lead UH. Pi'ikea Kitamura was 2-for-5 with a double while Sean Montplaisir added a triple and two RBI.

The Pack got to Slaats early, scoring four runs in the top of the second. Macdonald drove in a run in the bottom of the inning to pull it back to 4-1.

Nevada would put up three more in the top of the third to get it to 7-1. They added another run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk to get it to 8-1.

The Rainbow bats awoke in the eighth, after the first two batters struck out, UH mounted a two-out rally. Macdonald started the scoring, driving in Collin Bennett. Montplaisir then came in to pinch hit and smacked a two-run triple to center, getting it back to 8-4. Unfortunately, that was as close as the 'Bows would make it, falling by the four-run deficit.

The two teams continue the series with a doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium tomorrow, starting at 3:05 p.m.
