HONOLULU – Highlighted by a two-run, walk-off, home run by Jeffrey Van Doornum in the first game, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (22-21, 5-9 WAC) swept a doubleheader against the Nevada Wolf Pack (23-16-1, 4-5-1), 10-9 and 1-0, at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday.

Blair Walters (1-1) got the win for UH in the first game while Tyler Graham (2-4) took the loss for the Pack.

Van Doornum finished the game going 3-for-5 with a homer, a stolen base, three RBI and two runs. Pi'ikea Kitamura was also 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs and a stolen base, while Greg Garcia was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kolten Wong completed the game 1-for-3 with one RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.

The Rainbows got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. Wong scored on a throwing error by the Pack after stealing third base. Garcia then drove in Kitamura later in the inning to put UH ahead 2-0.

Nevada came back, scoring four runs in the top of the second to take the 4-2 edge. But the 'Bows had the answer, scoring two runs, driven in by Garcia and Van Doornum, in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 4-4.

The Wolf Pack again had a two-run inning in the top of the fifth, with Hawai'i responding with a run in the bottom half of the inning, driven in by David Freitas, cutting it back to 6-5.

Nevada extended its lead with a run in the eighth and two more in the top of the ninth, on a two-run homer by Nick Melino, extending the lead to 9-5.

But Hawai'i made a huge rally in the bottom of the ninth. Wong started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to deep center with the bases loaded. Kitamura then got UH within a run, hitting a two-run single down the rightfield line, making it 9-8. Van Doornum then took the 1-2 pitch with two outs deep to left-center, clearing both fences before landing across the street to give UH the 10-9 victory.

In the second game, Matt Sisto (4-4) got the win in relief, allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Connor Little came in to get the final two outs of the game, earning his first save of the year. Jeremy Cole (3-1) got the loss for Nevada.

Kevin Macdonald was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a stolen base while Garcia had a run and a stolen base.

Macdonald got UH on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, hitting a two-out, RBI single to right, putting the 'Bows ahead 1-0.

From there, Sisto took over. After coming in for the second inning and allowing a hit and a hit-by-pitch, the sophomore retired 12 of the next 13 batters, to keep the Pack off the board.

Nevada loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh, but Little came in and induced a pop up before striking out the final batter of the game to ensure the 1-0 victory.

The series concludes with a single game at Les Murakami Stadium at 1:05 p.m. tomorrow.
