Walker’s Head Shot Kill Voted Play Of The Year

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team as the inaugural Volleyball Market/AVCA Men's Play of the Year winner, as a part of the newly created Volleyball Market/AVCA Play of the Week program.

The play, which can be viewed on the AVCA's YouTube channel by clicking here, was one of three finalists that were eligible for the Volleyball Market/AVCA Men's Play of the Year. Nearly 2,000 votes were cast to determine the winner, with the Warriors beating out Ball State University and New Jersey City University during the designated week-long voting period.

The award-winning play came during Hawai'i's home match-up with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) foe UC Irvine on January 30, a hard-fought match in which the Warriors won 3-2. The play features AVCA All-American outside hitter Joshua Walker set up for an attack and, ultimately, kill the ball off the head of one of the Anteaters' defenders. The kill enabled Hawai'i to break a 27-27 deadlock in the second game, and the Warriors went on to secure the game 32-30. The win allowed Hawai'i to improve its record to 6-3 on the young season.
