WAC Names Amanakis Track Athlete Of The Week

DENVER – University of Hawai'i track and field hurdler Thalia Amanakis was selected as the Western Athletic Conference's Athlete of the Week for the week of May 3-9.
 
Amanakis, a senior from Sydney, Australia (Tangara School for Girls), posted a season-best time of 59.63 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles at the Occidental Invitational in Eagle Rock, Calif. on Saturday. Amanakis' time leads the WAC and ranks 17th in the NCAA West First Round Championships performance list. The senior also ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.11 at the meet.
 
The award is Amanakis' second of her career.
 
Idaho's K.C. Dahlgren, a senior from Missoula, Mont. (Big Sky HS), was named the “Field” athlete of the week after winning the pole vault at the Vandal Jamboree.
 
Amanakis and the Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the WAC Outdoor Championships, May 12-15 in Ruston, La.
