Samantha Balentine finished in fourth place in the heptathlon at the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Jim Mize Track and Field Complex.
The Lodi, Calif., native finished with a personal-best 4,725 points in the seven-discipline event and was the only freshman in the top eight. She scored five team points for UH, which is currently in third place heading into Friday's first full-day of competition. Idaho's Ulrike Hartz, the Day 1 leader, won the event with 5,601 points.
Balentine began Day 2 with an event PR in the long jump. She placed eighth overall with a mark of 16-7.75 (5.07m) and followed that with another event PR in the javelin (96-2/29.31m), finishing seventh. The freshman concluded the day with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:31.05).
The WAC Outdoor Championships continues on Friday with prelims and select finals and concludes with most event finals on Saturday.
