No. 21/23 Hawai`i Heading To Stanford Regional

2010 NCAA Softball Tournament Bracket

LAS CRUCES, N.M—The No. 21/23-ranked University of Hawai`i softball team (44-13, 19-1 WAC) is heading to the Stanford Regional as the 16th seed in the 2010 NCAA Softball Tournament. The 'Bows will open with Big West Champions, UC Davis (26-27, 15-6 Big West) on Friday, May 21, 2010.

In the other half of the Regional, Stanford (36-17, 8-13 PAC-10) will take on Texas Tech (36-16, 7-11 Big 12).

The 'Bows won both the Western Athletic Conference regular season crown and for the first time in school history, the WAC Tournament. The 'Bows went 19-1 in conference, posting the second best record in WAC history. Hawai`i won the WAC tournament, going 3-1, defeating Fresno State in five innings, 14-3 to claim the title.

Hawai`i has faced both Stanford and UC Davis earlier this season. Stanford opened the season in Hawai`i at the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic tournament. The 'Bows split with the Cardinal, losing the first game, 0-2, but came back to defeat the then No. 10 Stanford team for the tourney title, 11-5. Hawai`i defeated UC Davis at the Cathedral City Classic, 8-5.

Head Coach Bob Coolen has led the Rainbow Wahine to nine NCAA Regionals. He is the only coach in Hawai`i softball history to lead teams into post-season play. It is the third time in four seasons that the 'Bows are playing in the post-season.
