Iwata started the first game at shortstop and as the number three hitter in the line-up. She went 0-for-2 at the plate while playing error-free at short. In the second game, Iwata pinch hit twice, but went 0-for-2 with a strike out.
In the first game, Team USA's Monica Abbott and Jennie Finch combined on a three-hit shut-out, while Futures Team pitchers—Jordan Taylor (Michigan) and Stacey Nelson (Florida)—held the powerful National Team off the scoreboard in the 0-0 tie.
Game two saw Team USA jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI-single by Alissa Haber that drove in Natasha Watley from second. The score remained the same through the first four innings, but in the fifth, the senior national team posted three runs. Watley scored for the second time on an RBI-single by Ashley Charters and later, Andrea Duran came through with a two-run single that scored Charters and Finch. Team USA added two more runs in the sixth to complete the scoring.
National team pitchers, Eileen Canney and Cat Osterman combined for a three hit shut out. The Futures Team used three pitchers—starter Kenzie Fowler (Arizona) threw the first tinning, giving up one unearned run with two strike outs. Blaire Luna took the loss, throwing the next three innings giving up no runs with just one hit. Angela Tincher closed the game, giving up five runs on seven hits with a walk and two strike outs.
The Futures Team, which includes both USA Softball rookies and those with program experience, consists of athletes who currently play or have played at 13 schools in six Division I conferences. They will compete next against the national teams of Canada, Japan and the USA at the 2010 World Cup of Softball, July 22-26,
