Kaufman Selected To Compete In NACAC Championships

HONOLULU – Fresh off of a national title in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championship, University of Hawai'i track and field athlete Amber Kaufman has been selected to represent Team USA at this summer's North American, Central American, Caribbean (NACAC) Championships in Miramar, Fla.
 
Athletes from 32 member-nations will compete in the championships, held at the Miramar Ansin Sports Complex, July 9-11. The high jump competition is scheduled for Saturday, July 10.
 
Team USA's NACAC Under-23 team consists of two athletes per individual event provided that both athletes have met the NACAC Under 23 standard. Athletes will be chosen based upon the USATF performance rank order list (June 2, 2010), for all age-eligible athletes.
 
Along with the U.S., other nations competing are Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, St. Kitts/ Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turk and Caicos Islands, and United States Virgin Islands.
 
The inaugural NACAC Championships was held in 2007 in El Salvador with a total of 26 nations represented. Team USA captured 43 medals including 28 gold.
 
Kaufman captured the NCAA Outdoor title and finished second at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The San Jose, Calif., native, currently has the fourth best mark in the country this season of 6-3.25 (1.91m) set at the Stanford Invitational in March.
