DENVER – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team was selected to with its 15th consecutive Western Athletic Conference regular season title, as picked by the WAC coaches, Tuesday. The coaches also choose the WAC Preseason Player of the Year, going to UH junior
Kanani Danielson.
Hawai'i received eight of the nine first place votes, as coaches aren't allowed to vote for their own team, garnering 64 points. New Mexico State came in second in the poll with 57, followed by Fresno State (44), Utah State (38), Boise State (35), Idaho (32), Nevada (30), Louisiana Tech (15) and San Jose State (9).
Danielson was joined on the Preseason All-WAC team by senior setter
Dani Mafua and sophomore middle
Brittany Hewitt. Danielson is the reigning WAC Player of the Year, earning AVCA All-America honors in each of her first two seasons at UH. Mafua is a two-time first team all-WAC honoree while Hewitt was named the WAC Freshman of the Year last season.
UH kicks off the 2010 season with the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational, starting on Aug. 27 as the Rainbow Wahine host San Diego. Also in the invitational are Kansas State and UCLA.
