ORLEANS, Mass. – University of Hawai'i junior to be
Kolten Wong was named the Most Valuable Player of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League Friday, after posting a great summer season for the Orleans Firebirds.
Wong finished third in the league with a .341 batting average, adding 22 stolen bases, 19 runs, 11 RBI, six doubles and three home runs. He posted a .452 slugging percentage while his 18 walks in 38 games helped the Hilo, Hawai'i, native to a .426 on base percentage.
The Kamehameha-Hawai'i graduate is a two-time first-team all-Western Athletic Conference honoree, winning WAC Tournament MVP honors this past May.
Wong's teammate on both the Rainbows and the Orleans Firebirds,
Matt Sisto, also enjoyed a good summer in the Cape. Sisto went 2-2 in seven starts for Orleans, carrying an ERA of 1.88 in 38.1 innings pitched, striking out 20 with just two walks.
