LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2010 AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll was released Tuesday with the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team ranked No. 5.
The Rainbow Wahine, who were ranked No. 3 to end the 2009 season, return four starters from a team that advanced to the NCAA national semifinal match.
Three-time defending national champion Penn State is ranked No. 1 in the poll, followed by Nebraska, Texas, Stanford and UH.
Hawai'i opens the season against No. 22 San Diego on Friday, Aug. 27, to start the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational. Also ranked in the invitational is No. 16 UCLA.
Others on UH's schedule that were in the preseason rankings are No. 10 Southern California and No. 25 St. Mary's, along with Michigan State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UC Irvine and New Mexico State, who were all receiving votes.
