WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team captured the OHANA Hotels and Resorts Shootout championship after blasting Wagner 4-0 Sunday night at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

UH, Pacific and Wagner finished with identical 1-1 records during the three-day, round-robin tournament. However, the Rainbow Wahine won the tie breaker by virtue of goal differential. Pacific defeated UH 1-0 on Friday, while Wagner took down Pacific by the same score on Saturday night.

The Rainbow Wahine (1-1) pressed Wagner (1-2) from the get-go and out-shot the overmatched Seahawks, 23-1.  UH out-shot Wagner 13-0 in the first half alone, but yielded just one goal, when Saeko Nagano scored the first goal of the UH season in the 17th minute. Brittani Lum fired the ball up field and a Wagner defender failed to clear the ball, directing it into the waiting feet of Nagano, who fired a low shot far post for the score.

The flood gates opened in the second half with three UH goals. Mari Punzal scored in the 50th minute after receiving a through ball from Chelsea Deptula. Sophomore Sky Shimabukuro scored her first career goal and made it 3-0 in the 64th minute with a close range shot. Meanwhile, Bree Locquiao added the finishing touch with a goal off an assist from Briana Garcia during the final tick of the clock

The Seahawks weren't able to muster a single shot until the 73rd minute when UH already held a comfortable 3-0 lead. All 26 players who suited up for UH saw action.

The Rainbow Wahine are back in action on Friday, Aug. 27 when they face Cal Poly in the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi tournament. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
