Men’s Tennis Team, Four Players Earn ITA Recognition

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its list of academic honorees for 2009-10 with four University of Hawai'i men's tennis players gaining recognition. Philipp Eberhard, Craig Faulk, Dmytro Kovalyov and Andreas Weber were named ITA Scholar Athletes for their performances on the court and in the classroom.

UH was also recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, which is awarded to programs with cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

Meanwhile, in order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Eberhard, Faulk and Kovalyov were all honored for the first time. It was the third such honor for Weber, the team's lone senior. The German native graduated with a degree in business this past May after helping lead the team to its third straight WAC championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. Eberhard and Kovalyov were also key members in the UH lineup this past year as the team captured both the conference regular season and tournament titles.
.
Earlier this year, Kovalyov and Weber were named to the all-WAC academic team. Weber concluded his career by earning all-WAC and all-WAC academic mention in all four of his seasons at UH.
