Women’s Tennis Team, Four Players Earn ITA Recognition

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its list of academic honorees for 2009-10 with four University of Hawai'i women's tennis players gaining recognition. Sophie Kobuch, Mari Tadaki, Aglae Van den Bergh, Natasha Zorec were named ITA Scholar Athletes for their performances on the court and in the classroom.

UH was also recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, which is awarded to programs with cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

Meanwhile, in order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Tadaki and Van den Bergh were honored for the first time. It was the second straight honor for Zorec, a junior, and the Kobuch, the team's lone senior. All four players were part of the 2009-10 squad that won 12 matches and advanced to the WAC Tournament semifinals for the second time in school history.

Earlier this year, Kobuch, Van den Berg and Zorec were named to the WAC all-academic team. Kobuch, a native of France, concluded her career as a three-time all-WAC and all-WAC academic honoree.
