Roy, McKee Lead Canada To Junior Pan Am Cup Title

PINECREST, Fla. – University of Hawai'i women's water polo head coach Michel Roy led the women's junior Canadian national team to the 2010 Pan Am Cup title held August 10-16 in Florida. Canada won the tournament following an 8-7 win over the United States with the win sparked by an incoming Rainbow Wahine player.

The nine-match tournament consisted of seven elite teams throughout North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The win was part of a double gold for Canada, which also captured the men's competition.

The team's championship run was led by incoming Rainbow Wahine freshman Kelly McKee. McKee, a native of Calgary, finished the tournament second on the Canadian team with 20 goals scored in nine matches. McKee scored two goals in the championship match to help lift Canada over the U.S.

Roy has spent more than 25 years as part of Canada's water polo program and was the co-head coach of Canada's successful qualification for the 2000 Olympics. In his eight years at UH, he has led UH to three NCAA tournament appearances and helped produce 20 All-American performances, including multiple selections in each of the last six seasons. The Rainbow Wahine finished 2010 ranked sixth in the nation.
