Women’s Tennis To Host Pair of USTA Outreach Events

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team will host the UH Tennis Campus Showdown, an open tournament, on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the UH Tennis Complex beginning at 2:00 p.m. The team will also host Ace To Success a series of mentoring programs for Hawai'i's youth.

The Campus Showdown is a one-day, short format tennis tournament open to juniors, college players, professionals and adults. The tournament serves as a player development program for the USTA and is run on college campuses across the nation during the fall. The purpose of the event is to give junior and college players opportunities for more competition; to give more American junior players a college campus experience; and to help build stronger ties between college programs and the local tennis community.

To enter the tournament, email your name, age, and skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced or professional) to assistant women's coach Bridgette Strickland at bs32@hawaii.edu. The entry fee is just $1 for singles and $2 for doubles. The deadline for tournament entry is Thursday, Sept. 16.

In addition, the UH tennis program will host Ace to Success a USTA-funded program. The program allows UH women's tennis players to work and play with youth players. Participants bring their homework to work on with the UH student athletes, followed by some time on the court. The event is concluded with food and refreshment for all. The program runs on three more dates this fall— Oct.6, Nov. 10, and Dec. 1. To participate, or for more information, contact assistant women's coach Bridgette Strickland at bs32@hawaii.edu.
