UH Opens Season With Runner-Up Finish

Final Results

LA'IE, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team opened the 2010 season with a second place finish at the Brigham Young-Hawai'i Invitational Saturday at the BYUH campus.

UH placed three runners in the Top 10 including senior Ashley Aitken's third place finish with a time of 18:15 on the 5K course. Freshman Kevyn Murphy completed her first collegiate race in eighth place (18:47) while fellow freshman Alison Williams followed closely behind in ninth at 18:52.

Completing UH's team scoring was Mariana Monasi (20:25, 25th) and Ashlee Jimenez (20:46, 28th).

“Allison finished close to her all-time PR despite the course condition which was dirt, grass, and pavement,” UH cross country and distance coach Althea Belgrave said. “It was the first race so for our two freshman to do as well as they did, it was great for the team.”

Alaska-Anchorage won the team title with 20 points followed by UH (73), BYUH (74), Hawai'i Pacific (86), George Fox (192), and Chaminade (218).

Individually, UAA's Ruth Keino won the race in 17:47 with teammate Mariam Kipngeno finishing right behind at 17:50.

The Rainbow Wahine next host the Big Wave Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course on Marines Corps Base Hawai'i.
