DENVER – University of Hawai'i quarterback
Bryant Moniz was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week following his performance in last week's victory at Army.
Moniz, a junior from Wahiawa, O'ahu (Fresno City College), completed 25-of-36 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-28 win. Moniz led the Warriors to touchdowns in three of their first four possessions with scoring passes to
Royce Pollard,
Rodney Bradley, and
Kealoha Pilares.
Following a fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter, Moniz drove his team from Hawai'i's 27-yard line to the Army 14-yard line in 15 seconds on two pass plays to set up the game-winning field goal with seven seconds left.
On the year, Moniz has passed for 612 yards and four touchdowns and his efficiency rating is 149.5. He ranks 12th nationally in total offense, averaging 316.0 yards per game.
This award is Moniz's first of his career. He and the Warriors will next play at Colorado, Saturday, Sept. 18.
