HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team will host the Big Wave Invitational Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course on the Marines Corps Base Hawai'i. The meet is the only home meet for the Rainbow Wahine this season.
The women's 4K race begins at 7:15 a.m. followed by the men's 5K race at 7:45 a.m. Competing along with host UH are the state's Division II teams Hawai'i Pacific, Brigham Young-Hawai'i, Chaminade, and UH-Hilo.
At last year's race, the Rainbow Wahine placed second with
Jessica Forrester and
Ashley Aitken finishing first and second, respectively. Forrester won the race with a time of 15:05.44, with Aitken finishing second at 15:15.45.
Tava Tedesco took fifth with a time of 15:43.92.

Recapping the HPU Invitational
The Rainbow Wahine opened the 2010 season with a second place finish at the Brigham Young-Hawai'i Invitational last Saturday at the BYUH campus. UH placed three runners in the Top 10 including senior Ashley Aitken's third place finish with a time of 18:15 on the 5K course. Freshman
Kevyn Murphy completed her first collegiate race in eighth place (18:47) while fellow freshman
Alison Williams followed closely behind in ninth at 18:52.
Big Wave Invitational History
Over the last decade, the Rainbow Wahine have captured three Big Wave Invitational titles in 2001, '04, and '06. Individually, UH runners have won titles in 2000 & '01 (Cheryl Smith), 2006 & '07 (Chantelle Laan Wilder), and 2009 (
Jessica Forrester).
