Warriors Return For Two-Week Homestand Beginning With Charleston Southern

HONOLULU – Following a two-week long road trip, the University of Hawai'i Warrior football team returns to Aloha Stadium for a non-conference game against Charleston Southern of the Football Championship Subdivision, Saturday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m.

Hawai'i (1-2) split its road trip, winning at Army 31-28 and falling to Colorado, 31-13. Against the Buffalos last Saturday, UH led 10-0 at the half before being out-scored 31-3 in the second half. Quarterback Bryant Moniz passed for 330 yards and had one touchdown to slot receiver Kealoha Pilares, who finished with six catches for 117 yards.

Charleston Southern (2-1) is coming off a 28-14 win over Mars Hill. Quarterback A.J. Toscano passed for 374 yards and three touchdowns while wide receiver Gerald Stevenson had six receptions for 198 yards and was named the Big South's Offensive Player of the Week. 

The teams have met once with Hawai'i winning 66-10 on Sept. 22, 2007 in Honolulu. In that game, UH out-scored CSU 45-0 in the second half. Backup quarterback Tyler Graunke started in place of All-American Colt Brennan and completed 22-of-36 attempts for 285 yards and three scores.

UH has won its last eight games against Bowl Championship Subdivision teams dating back to 2001.

Following the game, the Warriors open Western Athletic Conference play at home against Louisiana Tech. The two-game homestand is the longest of the season.

Promotions: First Hawaiian Bank is the game sponsor and will join UH in honoring the Waipio Little League National Champions at halftime of the contest. First Hawaiian Bank will present a check to team representatives to help defray the expenses from their run to the World Series game. Register at Gate 3 to participate in the First Hawaii Bank Field Goal Kick before the game. Two thousand “Thunder Sticks” will be distributed in the UH student section. First Hawaiian Bank will be distributing Waipio team photos at the stadium gates (while supplies last). Farmers Insurance Hawaii will be collecting canned goods and monetary donations at Gate 3. Fans are encouraged to visit the Chevron Family Fun Zone (located across from the stadium ticket office) before the game for free contests, rides, and activities.The Waipio Little League team will be at the Chevron Family Fun Zone from 4:15 p.m. until 5:15 p.m., signing autographs and posing for photographs.
