Women's Soccer Trounced At Stanford

Box Score

STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team suffered its worst loss in school history with a 9-0 setback to No. 2 Stanford Thursday night at Cagan Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 2-8 overall with their fifth straight loss.

UH was never in the game as the Cardinal (7-0-2) jumped all over the Rainbow Wahine with three in goals in the first 10 minutes. Stanford led 5-0 at half and poured in four more goals after the break. The nine goals were the most UH has ever allowed, as were the five first-half goals.

Seven different players scored for Stanford, including Lindsay Taylor, who scored the first two goals of the match. Christen Press, the nation's leading goal scorer, also netted two goals. The Cardinal out-shot UH, 33-3 for the match.

The Rainbow Wahine set another dubious school record when they were shutout for the fourth straight match. UH has not scored since a first-half goal by Chelsea Deptula in a loss to Cal on Sept. 5.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is a rematch with Pacific in Stockton, Calif., on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 11:00 a.m. PT (8:00 HT). The Tigers defeated UH, 1-0, in Honolulu in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 20.
