HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Warrior football team made quick work of Charleston Southern with a dominating 66-7 win Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. UH evened its record to 2-2 with the win.

Bryant Moniz tied a school record with six first-half touchdown passes as UH took a 49-7 lead at halftime and never looked back. Moniz finished with a career-high 395 passing yards in a little more than one half of action.

UH gave new definition to a quick strike offense as each of its first six touchdown drives took five plays or less and under two minutes. The 49 first-half points by UH were its most since scoring 52 against Nevada in 2002. Meanwhile, UH matched the point total it of its last meeting with Charleston Southern, a 66-10 win in 2007.

UH wasted little time in getting on the board as Kealoha Pilares' 18-yard catch on the fourth play from scrimmage gave UH a 7-0 lead in less than 75 seconds of action. It was a sign of things to come. Pilares finished with two touchdown catches in the half as did Greg Salas who nabbed catches of 40 and 34 yards for his first two scores of the year.

Meanwhile the defense stepped up with their best performance of the year. UH held the Buccaneers (2-2) to just seven points and forced four turnovers. Jeramy Bryant recorded UH's first interception of the season, while the Warriors recovered two fumbles.

With the game in hand, six different quarterbacks saw action for UH, including redshirt freshman David Graves who connected with Dustin Blount on a 41-yard touchdown on the very first pass of his career in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors have now won nine straight games against FCS opponents dating back to 2001, including its 66-10 rout of the Buccaneers three years ago.

The Warriors now enter its Western Athletic Conference schedule with a meeting against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
